Generally, we think that switching off means the job is done, but in reality, due to many technical reasons, the meter units keep increasing without our knowledge. In this article, I will explain the reasons why your home meter might generate an excessive bill.
🔴 Leakage in Wiring or Electrical Cables
Old wiring running inside the walls of the house often becomes the main reason for the meter running rapidly. If the wires in your house are very old or if rats have chewed them somewhere, that part may come into contact with the wall concrete and cause electricity leakage. In such a situation, even if you switch off, the meter considers this leaked electricity as consumed.
◽ How to check: To verify this, disconnect all plug points in the house. If the red light on the meter still glows or the meter continues to rotate, understand that there is a fault in the house wiring.
🔴 Impact of Appliances in Standby Mode
Nowadays, our homes have many smart devices like TVs, ACs, ovens, or music systems. Most of the time, we only turn these off using the remote. But remember, turning off via remote does not mean the machine has stopped consuming electricity. These devices remain in 'Standby Mode' so that they can start working as soon as you press the remote again.

This problem is seen more frequently in old motors or water pumping machines. When a motor becomes weak, it consumes double the electricity to lift the same amount of water.

अगर घर की अर्थिंग सही नहीं है या अर्थिंग का तार किसी तरह फेज वायर के संपर्क में आ जाता है, तो इसके परिणामस्वरूप भी बिल बहुत ज्यादा आता है। कई लोगों के घरों में न्यूट्रल तार और अर्थिंग के बीच सही संतुलन नहीं होता, जिसकी वजह से मीटर लगातार करंट उपयोग में होने का संकेत देता है।
कुल मिलाकर कहें तो, लापरवाही और पुराने उपकरण हमारी जेब पर भारी बोझ डालते हैं। घर की वायरिंग की हर 10-15 साल में जांच करना और आधुनिक 'स्टार रेटिंग' वाले उपकरणों का उपयोग करने से बिजली के बिल में काफी कमी लाई जा सकती है। इसलिए केवल बिजली विभाग को दोष देने के बजाय अपने घर की बिजली व्यवस्था की किसी विशेषज्ञ से जांच करवाना ही बुद्धिमानी का काम है।
